Pro-style PS5 controllers have arrived, and you have a couple of excellent options to choose from.

PlayStation's DualSense is a fantastic controller with some truly innovative features that made it feel "next-gen" at launch. For many, the DualSense will be the only PS5 controller they'll ever need. But in 2023, PS5 users finally have a few more officially licensed options, including the long-awaited DualSense Edge, PlayStation's first pro-style controller. The DualSense Edge isn't the only competitive controller worthy of being deemed one of the best PS5 controllers. PDP's Victrix Pro BFG, an officially licensed controller with a similar focus, is a strong competitor that offers different features that may appeal to you. We've rounded up the best PS5 controllers in 2023, and we'll continue to add to this list as more PS5 controllers hit the market.

Whether you're looking for the best PS5 controller for general use (spoiler: It's the DualSense) or options for fighting games, racing games, and streaming Netflix, there are a handful of great controllers we recommend using with the PS5 from reliable brands like Logitech, Razer, and Thrustmaster. And of course, we're taking a look at the growing lineup of competitive controllers that give PS5 users more customization features.

Why hasn't Sony made an official "elite" controller yet? Even moreso, why doesn't the PS5 have buttons on the back on the controller by default?! They haven't added any new buttons, which is not acceptable for modern gaming. Games are a lot more complex than they used to be and it's about time we had more buttons by default. At least Microsoft has figured out how to make a really nice controller with buttons on the back. Seems expensive to pay $180 for a first-party controller until you see Sony's lacking options and having to pay $80 more for a third-party controller. No thanks!

Imagine paying around $300usd for a controller THAT IS MADE WITH THE SAME SHITTY PARTS AS THE STANDARD CONTROLLERS. How clueless must I be to even consider getting a scuf controller knowing that all current gen controllers suffer from severe drift issues? And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I listen to all the problems scuf controllers have, and its something the standard ps5 controller is unknown of ever getting. Literally created for the clueless Warzone/Apex/Fortnite scrub that doesn't know any better, and simply purchases this overpriced garbage because my fav content creator, which is also sponsored by these companies, told me to buy it. Laughable.

While I like the dual sense triggers, I feel they'll be the first thing to go. I play pretty much only 1st party games on the PS5, or exclusives (so the functions are used a lot), and it's the function, like in Returnal, where you pull the trigger down halfway for one action, then it snaps past the halfway mark for the second action. And I play with that setting on medium. Just hope they made them well, unlike the PS4 controllers where the rubber would come off the thumbsticks. And those weren't nearly as advanced.

For anyone on the fence, do NOT buy a Scuf controller.

I bought one and received it defective. Decided that it wasn’t worth the hassle for such an expensive product to be faulty, so I returned it. They tried to tell me it worked fine and tried to charge a restocking fee.

Luckily I saved a video of the defect and argued with them until they gave me a full refund.

Horrible quality control, horrible warranty (only 6 months), and scummy return policy practices.

Their customer service was fine, but having to argue to get all my money back leaves me wondering how many people they screw over with their policies.

I got a new console early December of last year, and couple months ago I spilled a full cup of coffee on top of the controller. I did not realize it until 30 min later. Ruined the controller, I took it apart and slowly began cleaning it with alcohol and orange clean with Qtips. I got all of the buttons working but sadly the membrane for the buttons went bad.

I contacted support, phone, took 10mins, told them the truth, and mailed it for repair. I bought a used controller off a friend at work, it had squishy buttons and a tiny minor drift, but it did just fine until mine came back. --- It arrived fast, fixed brand new, no drift, looks %100 brand new, as I wrote a L and R inside the control in permanent marker, and the repaired controller did not have the markings. That was great they did not charge anything.

I then contacted support, told them about the second controller, sent it off, came back brand new. So I got two brand new controllers now, both working top notch. I am using the second one with my PC using a Bluetooth adapter, new drivers, and while I prefer xbox button layout, the PS5 controller is amazing, and new settings allow increased functioning including haptic, touch, etc.

So if anyone out there, is experiences problems of any kind with your PS5 controller then get it repaired. At most you have to pay shipping one way. Sony has expanded controller support warranty for much longer and free.

Scuf makes surprisingly expensive, cheaply made products. They work perfectly fine until they don't three weeks after you buy them.

I will gladly stick with the regular controller. I even got a woodgrain-looking faceplate for $15 for the lower piece of the controller, and now it looks amazing.

That is one overpriced controller for rubber grips and a plastic face plate.

I have a Scuf Reflex for the PS5. The L2 button went out within 2 weeks. To their defense, they did repair it as it was on warranty.

I'm going to sell it. Battle Beaver makes a fully customizable PS5 controller with 100x more options than a Scuf. I don't have it in hand yet but the build options are impressive.

Scuf makes scuffed products. Overpriced trash that falls into pieces in your hands while playing a game.

I would honestly just stick to first party Sony controllers. It is tempting though but for $260 for a Scruf Reflex, I can get three Dualsense controllers for $240.

Maybe it's me. But the 3rd party controllers do not feel as premium as the controllers made by Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo makes.

They usually make it out of too much cheap plastic. That makes it feel cheap to the senses.

Plus, they don't really last that long.

@illegal_peanut: Nintendo's controllers.. maybe the Pro isn't bad but the 8bitdo controllers are actually very good and support all features, and don't need a dongle to connect to Switch. I prefer them far more than the default Switch Joy Cons.

The Microsoft ones are ok but I have sharp edges on two of mine, and my fingers often slip from the triggers because they're curved towards the bumpers and then I accidentally hit the bumpers sometimes. Not good in the heat of the moment.

It would be nice if you could just use any controller on any console but they make a lot of money off accessories so Sony and MS want to lock you in to 1st party or licensed products. It's nice that on Switch that's not the case though and you actually can use third party wireless controllers! I hope they don't change that for their next system.
