GTA Sells 5M Copies In Past 3 Months, Jumps To 180 Million In Total Sales

Be honest, how many times have you bought GTA 5?

Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has revealed that GTA 5 has sold over 180 million units. Even more impressive is five million of these were only sold within the last three months, nearly a decade after the game was first released.

The news comes from Take-Two's latest earnings report, which stated that GTA 5 has reached over one billion dollars in retail sales "faster than any entertainment release in history." The report also states that the franchise has sold over 400 million units and that "active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway." Although no date was given for the next GTA, it's known that Rockstar has been working on another installment. Late last year, a massive leak showed off early gameplay footage and screenshots of GTA 6.

In addition to GTA 5 reaching over 180 million units, the Red Dead Redemption series has also seen continued success. The franchise has sold over 75 million units worldwide, while Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold over 53 million units and is the second best-selling title in the US based on dollar sales in the last five years.

That's pretty sad, to see so many fake gamers buying one of the worst games ever made. R* has never made a game worth buying, they have to be the least competent developer out there and yet, so many casuals just have no idea what makes a game great and they keep buying trash like this.

No self-respecting gamer, no intelligent gamer, and nobody with taste is buying a R* game under any circumstances.

What most, including gamespot fail to mention is, no GTAV has NOT really sold that many copies. It is usually cheaper to buy GTAV bundled with shark cards than it is to buy shark cards. This means the player base did not increase any what so ever. Millions of users own multiple copies. This is nothing more than a R* gimmick to inflate numbers.

@ikebroflovski: I bought GTA5 for xbox360 and then on PS4. I'm not much of a console gamer and never really played it. I even considered purchasing it on PC. What a sucker!

@ikebroflovski: Is that true? I was just thinking to myself that it's starting to not really make sense anymore. There are only so many consoles out there and the 40 million or so PS5s and Series x owners out there almost certainly already had PS4s and X1s. All together with PC it's like like they're reporting that 70% of gamers own gta5 and I just don't believe that when not even 25% of Playstation users own some of their biggest exclusives. Even Mario Kart on Switch doesn't have an attach rate as high as Rockstar claims with GTA.
