Final Fantasy 16 Revenge Trailer Debuts At The Game Awards, Confirms June 22 Release Date

In the final world premiere announcement at this year's The Game Awards, Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida revealed a new trailer for the game, which he called "Revenge," and included an official June 22, 2023 release date for the upcoming RPG.

The trailer showed more of the fast action gameplay we've seen in previous trailers, as well as a glimpse of Espers that players will find throughout the adventure. The horseback-riding Esper appears to be Odin, while a new demonic Esper is seen attacking hero Clive Rosfield. Later in the trailer, Rosfield summons an Esper of his own in Ifrit and uses him in battle.

Speculation on a Final Fantasy XVI release date first began back when main director Hiroshi Takai said that the game was "95%" finished, which was followed by the game being rated in Brazil. According to the original listing, Final Fantasy XVI's more mature direction will include sex scenes that are "not fully shown" and plenty of violence including "blood, intentional deaths, torture...victims suffering" and even "hate crimes."

Development on Final Fantasy XVI features an all-star cast of developers joining Yoshida and Takai, and includes Devil May Cry 5's Ryota Suzuki as the game's combat director, art director Hiroshi Minagawa, and Final Fantasy XIV's Masayoshi Soken, who is composing the music for this game.
