Fast X could be a three-parter, according to star and producer Vin Diesel. He said at the movie's red carpet event in Rome today, May 12, that Universal wants Fast X to be a trilogy. It was originally going to be two movies, but why not one more, the studio reportedly asked.

"Going into making this movie, the studio asked if this could be a two-parter. After the studio saw Part 1, they said could you make Fast X: The Finale a trilogy? So umm," Diesel said, trailing off. Co-star Michelle Rodriguez added, "It's three acts in any story."

Diesel then walked away from the interviewer and said, "I'm gonna get in trouble here." Reality check: Diesel is not going to get in trouble for this. In fact, it's possible this was a planned stunt to generate even more buzz for the Fast series.

Fast X began production back in April 2022, but quickly ran into some speed bumps as director Justin Lin--who has long been associated with the franchise--abruptly exited the project. He was replaced by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Netflix's live-action Lupin).

Fast X stars Diesel and Rodriguez, as well as Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, and Sung Kang. Newcomers include Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), and Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad)--plus Rita Moreno (West Side Story) as Dom's grandmother.

Fast X releases in theaters on May 19, 2023.
